As the year comes to an end, we are just days away from welcoming 2025. Our excitement for the start of the rallye grows daily. The conversion of our Land Rover Discovery is mainly completed, but we are still facing challenges with converting the auxiliary heater into a parking heater. We need to make some adjustments here.

We have successfully implemented the following points:

  • Installation of a second car battery: Thanks to the vehicle’s design for left- and right-hand traffic, a second compartment for a battery was available. We were able to easily install a second battery and connect it to the first battery with a relay. The biggest challenge was getting the cable for the control module into the vehicle cockpit. After several attempts, we finally managed to pull the connection into the footwell.
  • Additional high beams: We mounted two additional high beams in front of the radiator grille, which we ordered from a Scandinavian auto parts shop. These lights are heated and therefore cannot freeze. The signal for the relay of the additional headlights is tapped from the power connection of the high beam, so they automatically switch with the high beam (as required by law).
  • Roof rack and spike tires: A roof rack was mounted on the vehicle, which we primarily want to use for transporting the tires. We ordered spike tires for the rallye and had them mounted on rims. Since the use of spike tires is not permitted in some countries, such as Germany and Poland, we will have to change tires during the tour.
  • Work lights: Additional work lights are installed on the roof rack. Two LED bars at the front and two LED spots at the rear.
  • Electronic parking brake: The electronic parking brake was already defect when we bought the vehicle. We took the vehicle to a local garage for repair of the parking brake, to perform general maintenance, change the tires, and complete the TÜV inspection (MOT – mandatory roadworthiness test). Many thanks to Auto Partner Weber for the uncomplicated support.
  • Parking heater: We also installed the module to upgrade the existing Webasto auxiliary heater to a parking heater. Unfortunately, it is not yet working perfectly. The fans start, but the auxiliary heater does not turn on. We hope to find the error in time.

We wish you all a good start to 2025 and look forward to you following our project.
