Day 7 – 28-02-2025

Today we are heading far north, but first, we have the daily challenge. We had to find the location first – not so easy without a GPS , but after a bit of back and forth, we managed it. Our valuable sledges (Po-rutscher) were to prove their worth today – sliding down the hill and taking as many cones as possible at the end. Viator did a great job, and so we collected daily and action points! Thanks, Patricia and kids, for the exchange on the first day

After that, we wanted to visit the Ice Cathedral in Tromsø, but it only opens at 1 PM. So, we enjoyed the view from outside. Then we continued to the first ferry of the day to Svensby. The 15-minute crossing was calm and relaxed, although it was really tight on deck. Many other teams were also there. After a short drive, we took the second ferry to Olderdalen. The crossing took 45 minutes and was also quite relaxed.

Then we continued on the road with a magnificent view of the Lyngen Alps. You could have stopped every five minutes to take photos, but we had to cover kilometers, so we only made a few short stops. Around 4 PM, we reached Storslett and had a late lunch/early dinner in a super cozy café that we found by chance. The food was amazing!

As soon as we arrived in Finnmark, it got significantly colder -9 degrees Celsius. But the highlight of the day was the sighting of the first northern lights. At 7:30 PM, we reached our mountain lodge for the night, 10 minutes north of Alta. Right after arrival, we put on our ski gear and went outside. Right in front of the Lodge, we experienced spectacular northern lights on the ski slope, where we admired this incredibly beautiful natural phenomenon for 30 minutes. We tried to capture it in pictures and videos, which never do it justice but give an impression. We hope you will enjoy.

Today we drove a total of 310 km, took two short ferry rides, spent an hour on the daily challenge, an hour  in Tromsø and spent about 8.5 hours in the car. Tomorrow we are heading to the North Cape.
